Joyce Lahr, 62, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice at Legacy Village in Bentonville, Ark.
She was born on March 22, 1950, in Stella, daughter of Kennith and Crilla (Cook) DeWitt. She was a 1968 graduate of Southwest High School and received her master's degree in education from Drury University in Springfield. She retired in 2003 from the Southwest School District after 35 years of service. After retiring, she worked for Arc of the Ozarks for five years, and continued to volunteer at Southwest School. She was a member of the Mission Baptist Church of Washburn and attended First Baptist Church in Washburn.
Survivors include: one son, Joseph and his wife, Ashley, of Springfield; two daughters, Elisha Ayres and her husband, Joshua, of Washburn, and Kritha Whitson and her husband Darrell, of Prairie Grove, Ark.; two grandsons; and two sisters, Janice Faulkner and her husband, Laymon, of West Fork, Ark., and Jeanette Hilburn and her husband, David, of Exeter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James DeWitt.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the White Funeral Home and Crematory in Cassville, with Rev. Jim Erwin officiating. Burial followed at the Roller Cemetery west of Washburn.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Backpack Program and may be entrusted to the White Funeral Home and Crematory.
