Chamber releases schedule of events for fall festival

The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce has released the schedule of events for the annual Chili and Salsa Cook-Off, which will be held on the square in Cassville on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Area bakers are invited to submit pie entries at the chamber booth beginning at 7 a.m. Pies will be accepted until 9 a.m.

Other booths will open at 8 a.m., and live acoustic music from 2-1-1 will begin at 9 a.m.

A pet parade, sponsored by Herrin Animal Hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Registration for the pet parade will be held at the Commerce Bank parking lot northeast of the square beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Pie judging will begin at 10 a.m. Also. Pies will be sold by the slice at the chamber booth after judging has been completed.

The annual Chili Dog Challenge, sponsored by Sonic, will be held at 11 a.m. The Chili Dog Challenge winner will receive a $100 cash prize.

Chili and salsa judging will begin at noon. Chili and salsa tasting kits, which will cost $2, will be sold at the chamber booth. The chamber will also offer event T-shirts during the festival.

Barry County Connection will take the stage at noon. The local group will offer musical entertainment throughout the afternoon.

The Cassville First Baptist Church Family Life Center will offer a "Minute-To-Win-It" contest during the fall festival. For more information or to sign up for the contest, call 846-0008.

A Thriller Flash Mob will perform at 2 p.m. Flash mob participants will perform to Michael Jackson's hit "Thriller" in celebration of World Thriller Day.

The top chili and salsa entries and other award winners will be announced at 3 p.m.

This year's event will also offer food concessions and craft vendors selling a variety of products.
