The Cassville Senior Center will hold its annual "Miles for Meals" fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 29. Funds raised during the event will help the center provide meals for seniors in Cassville and the surrounding areas.
"This event is important to the senior center because it helps raise funds to help our meals program and to help keep the kitchen equipment up," said Linda Parker, senior center administrator.
The senior center's meal distribution has risen 33 percent in the past year, and the center now offers around 62,000 meals per year. In addition to providing meals at the senior center, the meals program offers meals to homebound seniors helping them remain in their homes longer, said Parker.
The Back to the 50s night at the senior center will kick off at 5 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. Music will be provided by tribute artist Ken Roberts from Raleigh, who will offer an Elvis impersonation. Grilled steak and chicken dinners will be offered, and an auction, featuring pies, baskets and other items will be held to benefit the senior center program.
The Cassville Cruisers Car Club will also offer a cruise-in and have customized and classic cars on display during the event.
"We wanted to do something different this year and involve some different community people," said Parker.
Community members who are unable to attend the Miles For Meals fundraiser can still contribute to the meals program. A $25 donation will feed a senior for a week, and a $100 donation will feed a senior for a month, said Parker. All donations are tax deductible. The Cassville Senior Center is classified as a 501c public charity.
Monetary donations and auction items can be dropped off at the senior center, which is located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. Auction items must be received by Friday.
