Photo contest deadline approaches

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Area photographers only have a few more weeks to submit entries for the second annual Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest, which is sponsored by "Rural Missouri" magazine and Missouri State Parks. The contest deadline is Friday, Oct. 26.

"After the long, hot summer we've endured, these next few weeks offer a great opportunity to enjoy time outdoors in Missouri's state parks and historic sites," said Jim McCarty, "Rural Missouri" editor. "When you do, be sure to take your camera and then enter the contest."

The Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest offers five categories for adults and one category for children age 12 and younger. First, second and third place winners will be selected in each category. Winning entries will be published in the January 2013 issue of "Rural Missouri."

Categories include: scenic Missouri; overnight adventure; playing in the parks; historic Missouri; show me wildlife; and children in nature. Photos must be taken at one of Missouri's 85 state parks or historic sites.

Entries will be judged on sharpness, composition, lighting, creativity and adherence to the category's theme.

First place photographers in the adult categories will win a Missouri State Park getaway package, which is valued at $500 and includes two nights lodging for two, a state park activity and a gift certificate for meals.

Second place winners will receive a Missouri State Parks prize package valued at $100 and third place winners will be awarded a $50 Missouri State Parks gift card.

The first, second and third place children's category winners will receive prizes valued at $100, $50 and $25, respectively.
