Dorance Ivanhoe "Don" Painter, 77, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Washburn, passed from this life on Sunday, September 2, 2012, in Tulsa, Okla. He was born June 26, 1935, in Washburn, Missouri, the son of John Lowell and Esther Geneva (German) Painter.
Don was raised in Missouri and graduated salutatorian of the Washburn High School Class of 1953. He lived in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Wichita, Kansas, and in 1955, he moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he lived the remainder of his life. He was the owner of the Don Painter Company, where he did appliance repair and HAVC; doing warranty work for the most major companies. He loved traveling, gardening, raising bees, tinkering and being out amongst nature. Don was of the Assembly of God faith.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; son, Bruce Wayne Painter and Phillip Bryan Painter; sisters, Doris Reed and Beverly Matthews; and brother, Bruce Painter. His first wife, Carolyn, passed in 1983.
His survivors include: his wife of 28 years, Ramona Sue (Matlock) Painter, of Tulsa, Okla.; son, Glen Michael Painter, of Broken arrow, Okla.; stepdaughters, Susan Johnson and her husband, Audie, of Norman, Okla., and Sarah Boyd and her husband, Gregory, of Mustang, Okla.; sisters, Virgie Dunlap and her husband, Gary, of Everett, Wash., and Sue Painter, of Stafford, Mo.; and grandchildren, Emily Rose Painter, of Broken arrow, Okla., Emmy Jo and Abigail Boyd, of Mustang, Okla., Joshua Adams, of Tulsa, Okla., and Ross, Hannah and Rachel Johnson, of Norman, Okla. Dorance was much loved and is greatly missed.
Services were held September 7. He was buried at the Kellyville City Cemetery in Kellyville, Oklahoma.
