The Barry County Democrat Club is sponsoring a picnic and music in the park from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the American Legion Pavilion in Cassville.
Wayne Hendrix, Barry County southern commissioner who is seeking re-election to that position, will be in attendance.
"Managing the county's business is a responsibility I take very seriously," Hendrix said. "The commission has successfully worked together to balance the budget, oversee the safety and building of new bridges and implemented the Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ), but we still have major economic challenges ahead."
Hendrix cited a recent court decision affecting sales tax collections on vehicles purchased out-of-state as one example of budget constraints facing the county.
"I want to make sure future generations in Barry County enjoy the same opportunities I have had growing up and raising my children here," Hendrix said.
In addition to the picnic meal, The Robbins Family will provide live music for the enjoyment of those attending. The event is free, and those planning to attend are urged to bring lawn chairs for comfort.
Event organizers said the event will serve as an opportunity for local citizens to visit with Hendrix in a casual setting.
