Sharon (Sherry) Leonard, 67, of Cassville, passed away at Cassville Health Care and Rehabilitation Center after sustaining a stroke in May 2011. She was born on June 15, 1945, in Miami, Fla. She graduated with honors from Piedmont High School in 1963. She attended South-east Missouri State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. She began her teaching career at Lafayette High School in West St. Louis County teaching English and speech. She concluded her teaching career with 10 years as a high school English teacher at Southwest R-5 Schools in Washburn.
She wore many hats over the years, including Pixie/Brownie/Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, Girls In Action missions teacher, room mother, sports bookkeeper for numerous baseball and softball teams and carpool mom. She was a member of First Baptist Church Cassville.
Survivors include: her two children, a daughter, Shelley Sparkman and her husband, Gamon, of Cassville, and a son, Lance Leonard and his wife, Sarah, of Fenton; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Wanda Davis and her brother, Alon Davis, all of Piedmont.
Funeral service were held Saturday at First Baptist Church, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. A graveside service and burial was held Sunday at the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to either Southwest R-5 or Cassville R-IV K-5 backpack programs or by donating books to either the FBC Cassville or FBC Ellisville church libraries.
