CHS boys finish sixth at Monett XC meet

The Cassville Wildcats boys team ran to a strong sixth place showing in the large schools boys division of the Monett Invitational cross country meet last Tuesday.

The Wildcats scored 146 points, while Monett tallied 152 for seventh. The Nixa Eagles won the event with an impressive 30-point score.

The Monett Lady Cubs took sixth place in the large schools race, scoring 122 points.

Cameron Byrley, of Springfield Parkview, took first place in 17:40.

Nixa's ladies completed the sweep, taking the tallest trophy with 31 points.

Sayra Villela, of Parkview, won the girls event, finishing in 21:39.

In the small schools division races, Lamar ran away with the boys title, scoring 32 points. Southwest's boys placed ninth with 209. Thomas Chabracek, of Crane, led wire to wire, winning in 17:38, the best overall time of the day.

Springfield Catholic won the girls title in a race that had only three complete teams. Catholic's Kelly Devlin won the individual race with a 21:46 effort.

The Monett course was changed to a new configuration last year, and the new course has areputation as one of the state's toughest.
