First Baptist Church to offer Itty Bitty Basketball and Cheerleading program

Monday, September 17, 2012

Beginning Oct. 6, First Baptist Church of Cassville will offer the Itty Bitty Basketball and Cheerleading program for 5 year olds and kindergarten students.

The program, which will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays from Oct. 6 through Oct. 27, will offer 20 minutes of practice time, a five minute devotional and 30 minute of games.

The goals will be set at seven feet for the Itty Bitty Basketball players, and the games will consist of 5 minute quarters. Itty Bitty Cheerleaders will perform at each game.

"Kids should participate in this program because it's fun," said Jeff Allee, Cassville First Baptist Church recreation minister said. "That's the biggest reason. It is also a good time to introduce kids to basketball and organized team sports and give them a taste of what it's like to participate in Upward Basketball."

Children can expect to have a lot of fun, make new friends and learn about the sports of basketball and cheerleading, said Allee. Participants will also receive take-home sheets to work on for the following week and uniforms to wear for the games.

As a parent-driven league, Itty Bitty Basketball and Cheerleading has coaches that enjoy working with children, and the activities are designed for young children to have fun.

"The activities that the children participate in are short enough, time wise, that they don't have an opportunity to get bored," said Allee.

The registration cost is $15 per child. Kids must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to participate in the program. The registration deadline is Sept. 28.
