The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce hopes to organize four cash mobs during the remaining four months of 2012.
"Cash mobs were created with this simple statement in mind, 'We each do a little. We all do a lot,'" said Mindi Artherton, chamber executive director. "Cash mobs are a new movement aimed at supporting local businesses.
"A cash mob is somewhat like a flash mob, but instead of singing and dancing, cash mobbers join together and commit to spending a recommended $10 at a local business," added Artherton.
Businesses interested in participating in an upcoming cash mob must be a chamber member in good standing and volunteer to host a cash mob event. This year, four businesses will be selected by a random drawing.
The first cash mob drawing will be held on Monday, Sept. 10. The winner of the drawing will be notified at least one week prior to the cash mob event. Artherton will work with the winning business to select a two-hour time frame for the event.
The cash mob event location and time will be publicized by the chamber one week prior to the event.
Area community members will be encouraged to take part in the cash mob by shopping at the business within the two-hour time frame.
Shoppers will also be encouraged to post photos and comments regarding their cash mob purchases on the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Shoppers who do not have a Facebook account can email photos and information to email@example.com in order to be included on the Facebook page.
"We are excited to see how big of a mob will visit our local retailers," said Gary Whyte, chamber president. "Come out and be a part of the mob, and support Cassville. Make this your new fun activity for all ages."
