Wreck Check app helps motorists through crashes
A new smartphone app from the Missouri Department of Insurance tells drivers the proper and safest steps to take after being involved in a car crash.
A recent survey from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners says that, although car crashes occur daily, many Americans do not know the proper steps to take after the accident. This free Wreck Check mobile application for iPhone and Android is available at www.insurance.mo.gov and assists in removing all guesswork of an accident.
This survey also reported that, although drivers need to share information, they aren't sure about the amount of personal information they should exchange.
Consumers should generally only share their name and their car insurance information. Sharing additional information such as a driver's license number or home address is not only unnecessary, it could be risky.
"After a car accident, it can be difficult to remember all the proper steps to take," said John M. Huff, director of the Missouri Department of Insurance. "The Wreck Check app is a quick reference that explains what information to share, protecting your safety and helping your insurance claim to go more smoothly."
The Wreck Check app allows the user to follow a step-by-step process of creating their accident report. It provides tips on staying calm, safe and smart while driving.
In addition, it makes capturing accident photos and collecting the necessary information to file an insurance claim easy. It also allows users to e-mail the competed accident report to themselves and their insurance agents.
