Business brings life to old building

Wednesday, September 5, 2012
The old Viola Post Office, closed over 40 years ago, has new life at its location on Highway 39 across from the Viola Baptist Church. Old-timers in the area may recall using the porch as a local meeting place to share news of their families and the community. The abandoned building and lot provided Liz Rork inspiration for a new business. Rork, who has been a Shell Knob area resident for over 30 years, has opened Landscape and Design by Liz Rork in the old post office building. She has constructed a greenhouse on the lot and planted ornamental grasses and plants around the front door of the former building. Many of the plants incorporated in the design and landscaping around the building are native to the old post office site and can't be found elsewhere locally. A grand opening celebration will take place the week of Sept. 1. Hours for the business are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, call Rork at 417-858-8890 or 417-671-2412 for appointments.
