Women's invitational attracts 100 golfers

The Cassville Women's Golf Association held its annual invitational tournament at the Cassville Golf Course on Aug. 23. The two-person scramble attracted 100 participants.

"The tournament was started in the 1960s and has grown in popularity, with this year being no exception," said Sharon Riedel. "The weather was spectacular, and the theme Denim and Diamonds was evident in the clubhouse and on the course."

The Cassville Women's Golf Association provided breakfast for all participants, and lunch was prepared by The Sandwich Factory, which is located at the golf course.

Cash prizes were awarded to the winners in each flight. Special prizes were also distributed during the day.

The first place winners in the Championship Flight were Debbie Allen and Stephany Powell with a score of 65. Other top finishers in the Championship Flight included: Beth Parmley and Jo Poyzer, 67, second place; Rita Moore and Patti Powers, 69, third place; and Karen Brown and Billie Dahnke, 70, fourth place.

Top finishers in the A Flight were: Deb York and Lori Reaves, 75, first place; Lynn Blanke and Marlene Woolf, 75, second place; Gay Redford and Linda Bettin, 75, third place; and Joanna Hotzler and Cheryl Ludwin, 76, fourth place.

Linda Cantrell and Shirley Hicks took first place in the B Flight with a score of 81. Other top finishers in the B Flight included: Sherry Miller and Angie Edie, 81, second place; Patti Shipman and Anita Atkeson, 81, third place; and Cindy Thomovsky and Carol Hefley, 81, fourth place.

Top finishers in the C Flight were: Patty Edwards and Phyllis Sarratt, 84, first place; Jan Vogel and Sandy Casebolt, 85, second place; Mary Lee Meyerkord and Doris Conner, 86, third place; and Kay Haupert and Ruth Callahan, 87, fourth place.

The Cassville Women's Golf Association will host the 76th annual Women's Tri-State Golf Championship Tournament at the Cassville Golf Course July 22, 2013, through July 24, 2013.

Golfers from Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri are invited to compete in the event. Throughout the three-day golf tournament, approximately 120 women will enjoy lodging, dining and shopping in Cassville and the surrounding area, said Riedel.

"In the 76 year history of this tournament, Cassville has never hosted such a prestigious event," said Riedel. "The Cassville Women's Golf Association along with the Cassville Golf Club are honored to have been selected to host this three-day event. Please help us showcase our community by your participation."

Susie Jacobs and Carol Skarp will co-chair the organizational committee for the upcoming tournament.
