New gospel singing event begins Saturday

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

A new gospel singing event will begin at Merl's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, on Highway Y north of Cassville, this Saturday night. The event, which will also offer opportunities to testify, pray and perform music, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

"This will be modeled after what they have done at McDowell, Clio and in McDonald County, but it will only be gospel singing," said Leroy Pugh, who serves as pastor at Merl's Chapel. "Other people go out and enjoy music on Friday and Saturday nights, I thought, why can't the people of God get together too?"

Musicians are needed for the inaugural and future events. The singings will be held at the church on the last Saturday of each month.

"There will be no alcohol or drugs, and we won't allow people to attend under the influence," said Pugh.

Beverages will be available during the events.

"When people come in, they will have the opportunity to sign up to play," said Pugh. "We will be open to feedback from people.

"Basically, this is an event to show that you can be a Christian and have fun," said Pugh. "We may be Christians, but we are still human, and we still want to have a good time."
