Larry Jackson Butler, 58, of Wheaton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
He was born Nov. 28, 1953, in Monett, the son of Lawrence and Ila Jean (McQueen) Butler. On July 21, 1973, he was united in marriage to Jeanie Moore, who survives.
Additional survivors include: two daughters, Kristi Dunlop and her companion, Matt Watson, of Rocky Comfort, and Korrie Bateman and her husband, Jeff, of Wheaton; and one granddaughter. Preceding him in death were his parents.
He grew up and received his education at Wheaton, graduating from Wheaton High School with the class of 1971. He spent all of his life in the Wheaton area. He was employed in auto parts for several years. He was an auto mechanic and also ran a milk route. He was a member of Jones Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge Comfort #533 of Wheaton. For 15 years, he served on the Wheaton School Board. He coached girls softball and got to see his girls play at state for four years. He was involved in dirt track, racing over 30 years, and was a tech inspector for the Show-Me racing circuit. He was the local Santa Claus over 30 years.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Pastor Brian Brinkhoff conducted the services. Burial was at Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton.
