Fire Department hosts annual bbq

It's time for the Wheaton Fire Department's 54th annual barbecue, slated to take place starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Wheaton City Park.

The Show and Shine Car Show will begin at 9 a.m. For registration information, call 847-7907.

The 18th annual Spud McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament gets underway at 11 a.m. For more information on the tournament, call 835-3003.

The Wheaton firefighters will serve barbecue chicken halves with a baked potato, baked beans and beverage or barbecued pulled pork sandwiches and baked beans starting at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds from the meals will benefit the Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of equipment.

The Fireman's Ice Cream Booth and homemade pies, donated by the Wheaton United Methodist Women, will also be offered for sale.

Free children's carnival rides will begin at 1 p.m.

Arts and craft booths will be open underneath wide tents on the grounds of the park. Free booth spaces are available to crafters. For information, call 417-652-7359.

Entertainment gets underway at 3 p.m. with the gospel band Third Generation, followed by the Robbins Band at 4 p.m. The Wilderness Band will take the stage at 5 p.m., followed by Barry County Connection at 6 p.m. Winding up the evening's line-up will be Glory Bound at 7 p.m

The final event of the evening is the duck race, kicking off at 8 p.m., with cash prizes awarded to the first five winning ducks. First prize is $500, second prize is $250, third prize is $125, fourth prize is $75, and fifth prize is $50.

Attendees can then participate in Edwina Tichenor's Karaoke, starting at 8:30 p.m.
