The Wheaton Historical Society and Wheaton Depot Museum will host a dedication ceremony for the donated VFW Post #5219 flagpole at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Wheaton Museum across from the Wheaton City Park.
Speakers for the event are Col. James Cantrell, USA retired, and Capt. Steve Burnett, USN retired, a Wheaton High School alumnus.
The Monett National Color Guard and the United States Navy Drill Team will also be in attendance.
The flagpole has been installed on the concourse between the Wheaton Depot Museum and the railroad caboose on the museum property. The area has been dedicated to hold engraved memorial bricks to honor area veterans who have served their country.
The Wheaton VFW #5219 recently disbanded and donated the flagpole and flags to the museum.
The event will be held in conjunction with the 54th annual Fireman's Barbecue. A fly-over salute to veterans will take place at noon at the Wheaton City Park.
The Wheaton Historical Society invites all area veterans to attend the ceremony and be recognized for their service to the nation.
