Volunteer tax preparers needed

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

ATLS (Across the LifeSpan) Coalition, a network of community service providers working to promote personal financial literacy and independence, is currently searching for volunteer tax preparers in Barry, Lawrence and surrounding counties.

Free training is provided, and all volunteers will be IRS certified prior to February of 2013. New volunteer training will be conducted in November or December, and training for returning volunteers will be held in January of 2013.

No experience is necessary. Basic to advanced training will be available. Some computer skills will be needed.

Volunteers will offer services Feb. 1 through April 15. Each volunteer must work a minimum of five hours per week. Schedules are flexible.

Last year, volunteers served over 49,000 individuals by completing 7,200 federal tax returns and over 8,200 Missouri Property Tax Credit claims.

For more information or to serve as a volunteer tax preparer, call Michelle Rice at 417-868-9599 or 1-800-497-0822 or email her at michelle@swmoa.com.
