W. Dale Burke, 75, of Monett, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Monett.
He was born on April 2, 1937 in Vanduser, the son of William R. and Wilma L. (Batts) Burke. After high school, he attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. Several years later, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a law degree. After law school, he served as Barry County prosecuting attorney, practiced law, served as Monett city attorney, served as associate circuit judge for Barry County and served as municipal judge for several local jurisdictions.
He was very involved in the community. He served as a school board member, a member of the Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriner's and Monett Chamber of Commerce. He was currently serving on the Cox Monett Hospital Advisory Board. He also volunteered as a driver for Loaves & Fishes. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett.
Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Sharon (Grieb) Burke, of the home; two sons, Capt. James R. (Randy) Burke, of Waxahachie, Texas, and David Burke, of Lewisville, Texas; two daughters, Lori Welch and fiancÚ, Larry Cantrell, of Monett, and Debbie McClelland and husband, Hal, of Springfield; one brother, Terry Burke and wife, Vicki, of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; one sister, Joy S. Leslie and husband Rick, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Wilma Burke; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Monett. Interment was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett. Arrangements were entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
