Health department conducts food-service inspections

The Environmental Services division of the Barry County Health Department inspected 26 food-service establishments during the month of June. Of that group, 16 establishments had critical violations and seven had no critical or non-critical violations.

Roaring River Waterslide in Cassville, Red Barn Antiques in Shell Knob and Little Tommy's Dogs II mobile unit underwent routine inspections in June that yielded no critical or non-critical violations.

Rockin' B Ball in Cassville underwent a pre-opening inspection in June that yielded no critical or non-critical violations.

Taco Bell in Monett, Pizza Hut in Cassville and Eagles Lodge in Shell Knob underwent complaint inspections in June that yielded no critical or non-critical violations.

Critical violations were found at 16 establishments:

* Casey General Store #2258 in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 5 and one critical and two non-critical violations were found. The critical violation was: dough mixer stored as clean has food debris inside. The violation was corrected on the spot.

* George's Cafeteria in Butterfield underwent a routine inspection on June 11 and one critical and no non-critical violations were found. The critical violation was: food contact surface of plastic cart is pitted, heat damaged and no longer cleanable and food contact surface of single service plates touching the cart surface. The violation was corrected on the spot.

* Plaza Mexico in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 12 and four critical and three non-critical violations were found. Critical violations were: raw shell eggs stored on shelf in kitchen instead of stored at 45 degrees or below; glass cleaner stored next to spices and other food items; chicharron stored in cardboard box, not a smooth, cleanable, food grade, non-absorbent container; and chicharron stored uncovered below meat cutting table, not stored to prevent contamination. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* Mazzio's Italian Eatery in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 12 and two critical violations and one non-critical violation were found. The critical violations were: yeast or bacteria growth in ice machine; and spray bottle of cleaner stored with clean food pans. A follow-up inspection was conducted on June 13 and no critical or non-critical violations were found.

* Country Diner in Shell Knob underwent a routine inspection on June 14 and two critical and one non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: kitchen hand sink is leaking onto floor when used; and spray bottle of liquid not labeled. A follow-up inspection was conducted on June 15 and no critical or non-critical violations were found.

* Kwik T's in Cassville underwent a complaint inspection on June 19 and one critical and no non-critical violations were found. The critical violation was pulled pork not from an approved source. The violation was corrected on the spot.

* Garcia's Mexican Restaurant in Shell Knob underwent a complaint inspection on June 19 and three critical and one non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: shrimp dated June 15 and tomato sauce dated June 6 non discarded on discard date; sanitizer in kitchen too weak and wiping cloths not kept in sanitizer between uses; and ice machine has mold growth accumulation. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* Nonna's Nummies in Shell Knob underwent a routine inspection on June 19 and one critical violation and three non-critical violations were found. The critical violation was: mashed sweet potatoes not labeled with the discard date. The violation was corrected on the spot.

* L&L Stores in Cassville underwent a routine inspection on June 21 and four critical and 12 non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: soda fountain nozzle has mold growth on it; breakfast biscuit in hot case held at 101 degrees instead of 140 degrees or above; container of cut melon not labeled and dated in walk-in cooler (must be labeled as personal if for personal use only); and bucket used for ice is not clean and dust accumulation on utensils that are on top of oven. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* Prime Cut in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 21 and six critical and four non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: uncovered employee beverage; raw sausage stored above ready-to-eat foods, including butter, oranges and salad dressings; barbecued pork and ribs not held at 140 degrees; numerous food items, including deli meats, hot dogs and ham, not labeled with discard date; numerous food items past their discard date, including baked beans, June 20, roasts, June 19 and 20, and sausages, June 14; and sanitizer too weak. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* The Steak Inn in Shell Knob underwent a routine inspection on June 21 and one critical and two non-critical violations were found. The critical violation was: unlabeled spray bottle of cleaner. The violation was corrected on the spot.

* Taco Bell/KFC in Cassville underwent a complaint inspection on June 22 and six critical violations and six non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: chicken breading not marked with discard time, which is used rather than temperature as a public health control; grill has food debris accumulation and numerous shelves storing food items, utensils and single service containers are soiled with food debris; cheese held with no time or temperature control; can opener blade has dried food debris and lime slicer heavily soiled with food debris; numerous food trays stored as clean are soiled with food debris, pan for potatoes not washed, rinsed and sanitized between uses and carts for food and utensils are heavily soiled with food debris; and employee did not wash hands prior to putting on new gloves. A follow-up inspection was conducted on June 26 and no critical or non-critical violations were found.

* Peking Place in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 26 and three critical and two non-critical violations were found. Critical violations were: raw chicken stored above cooked chicken in walk-in cooler; sanitizer not a proper strength; and nobody ServSafe certified or equivalent on duty.

* Grant's Restaurant in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 26 and two critical and no non-critical violations were found. The critical violations were: tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and sour cream at 53 degrees in cooler; and uncovered employee beverages. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* T&T Concessions Get Happy mobile unit underwent a routine inspection on June 29 and three critical and no non-critical violations were found. Critical violations were: bleach not labeled with common name; sanitizer not at proper strength; and employee put on gloves without washing hands first. The violations were corrected on the spot.

* T&T Concessions Tropical Sno I mobile unit underwent a routine inspection on June 29 and two critical and no non-critical violations were found. Critical violations were: bleach not labeled with common name; and sanitizer too strong. The violations were corrected on the spot.

The following three establishments had only non-critical violations:

* Jenkins Kwik Stop underwent a follow-up inspection on June 4 and one non-critical violation was found.

* Big Baldy's Backwoods BBQ in Monett underwent a routine inspection on June 13 and one non-critical violation was found.

* Pizza Hut in Shell Knob underwent a routine inspection on June 19 and five non-critical violations were found.
