Irwin-Easley Post #118 broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the fourth, and went on to a 9-5 victory in the first game of an American Legion AA doubleheader at Monett on Thursday.

After getting rocked for four runs early, Marcus Weatherman settled down and limited Monett's Post #91 to a single run in the final five innings while earning a complete-game victory.

Back-to-back-to-back RBI from Ty Craig, Chase Jackson and Gabe Kirk pushed the Cassville team to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Monett took advantage of a walk, an error and a passed ball to tie the score in the bottom of that inning.

Jackson and Kirk supplied more RBI in the top of the fourth as Post #118 surged back in front, 6-4. A sacrifice fly from Monett's Swanson cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth, but the hosts would score no more.

A three-run outburst in the top of the sixth gave Cassville a 9-5 lead. Jordan Fisher led off with a single, and reached second base on a fielder's choice. Jackson's routine ground ball was booted in the infield, and Post #118 had two runners in scoring position with just one out.

Kirk followed with a 2RBI single, and he ended up at third base on a throwing error. Weatherman helped his own cause with an RBI sac fly to produce the 9-5 final score.

The Monett team rallied to earn a split in the doubleheader, taking the late game with an 11-5 win.
