Butterfield council approves construction bid
Aldermen with the City of Butterfield awarded the contracts for construction of a new well and distribution system during their regular May meeting.
Aldermen approved ordinances for contracts awarded to Harper Drilling, out of Clinton, to begin drilling the new well, and the contract for construction of the distribution system awarded to Lathrop Construction Inc., of Nevada. Cost of the drilling portion of the project will be $96,650. The construction of the distribution system, well tower and repairs to the city streets will be $1,112,418.
Construction on the project will begin May 24.
Aldermen also approved a rate change for trash disposal.
Previously, customers paid $10.25 per month for disposal services. Effective on May 1, that rate increased to $11.39 per month. Cost increases include a 24-cent rate increase and a 90-cent administrative fee.
Council members approved updating an existing QuickBooks program already in use by the city clerk for payroll and other financial records at a cost of $399.
In other business, aldermen:
* Approved the purchase of up to $300 for a window air conditioning system for city hall.
* Discussed what materials should be used to make repairs to the city's equipment storage shed.
* Approved wastewater reports, including replacement of a pump for lift station #1, in the amount of $3,884.49.
*Voted to purchase of 18 new water meters at a cost of $900.
* Approved the repair of the city's mower at a cost of $75.
