Area communities are gearing up for their annual Fourth of July celebrations, which are only two weeks away. Both Shell Knob and Eagle Rock will hold fireworks shows on Wednesday, July 4.

Fire and Thunder

The Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce will hold its 37th annual Fire and Thunder Fireworks display on Table Rock Lake at 9:30 p.m. on July 4.

"This is the longest running, continuously held fireworks display on Table Rock Lake," said Sheila House, Shell Knob Chamber executive director. "This event is shot directly from a platform at lake level allowing for spectacular special effects not seen in land shows.

"Fire and Thunder also includes a large percentage of American-made fireworks, which are known for spectacular height and long-lasting color," added House.

Fireworks are shot from a location about one mile east of the Shell Knob bridge. Viewing is best from the lake, but the show can also be watched from several locations along Highway 39 or Highway YY.

"In conjunction with the Fire and Thunder Fireworks display, the Shell Knob Chamber is sponsoring a boat parade on Table Rock Lake," said House.

Boaters are invited to gather on the south side of Lost Hill Island, which is located at the junction of the Kings and White rivers, at 6:30 p.m. The parade will begin idling toward the Shell Knob bridge at 7 p.m. and end near the fireworks site.

"All types of craft are welcome to join the parade," said House. "There is no cost to enter your vessel."

In the event of inclement weather, the Shell Knob Chamber's Fourth of July celebration will be postponed until Thursday, July 5.

Fired Up and Smokin'

The Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department will hold the annual Fired Up and Smokin' Fireworks Show at dusk on July 4.

"The fireworks display will be held over the Highway 86 Bridge at dusk," said Mark Pierson, of the Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department. "The now famous barbecue however has changed from last year to better accommodate our guests."

This year, the Fourth of July Barbecue will be held at Eagle Rock Fire Station #1, which is located off of Highway 86 one-quarter mile west of the Highway 86 Bridge. The facility offers air conditioning and a large parking area.

Firefighters and department volunteers will begin serving smoked pork and brisket with coleslaw and baked beans at 11 a.m.

In addition to the meal, the barbecue will offer an auction featuring an assortment of items donated by area businesses. Donnie Stumpff will serve as auctioneer. The event will also offer a dunk tank.

"We invite you to dunk your favorite firefighter or first responder," said Pierson.

Donations are still being accepted for this year's fireworks display. Contributions can be mailed to Eagle Rock Fireworks, 30625 State Highway 86, Eagle Rock MO 65641.
