Post #91 wins Carl Junction Tourney

After dropping its first four contests of the season, Post #91 has ripped off five consecutive victories including three wins on Saturday to claim the Carl Junction Tournament.

Post #91 defeated Carl Junction 4-0 in the championship game scoring three runs in the first inning. The team also got seven stellar innings on the mound from Kyle Robbins to solidify the victory.

Pate Powell walked to open the first. Colten Phillips then reached on an error. Sean Goostree hit into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. Phillips scored on a wild pitch and Josh Steward singled. Robbins then doubled to score Goostree and Steward.

Post #91 tacked on an insurance tally in the sixth.

Robbins (3-1), on 103 pitches, allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five.

Carthage

Post #91 put up crooked numbers in the fourth and seventh inning to blank Carthage 8-0 in Saturday's semi-final.

Post #91 plated eight runs on 10 hits and were solid defensively, playing error-free baseball.

Steward paced the Legion squad at the plate collecting two hits in four tries with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Nick Childress was two for three at the dish with a run scored and a RBI.

Goostree picked up the victory pitching six innings of four hit baseball. He struck out five. Childress pitched an inning of relief. He allowed no hits and struck out one.

McDonald County

In the first of their three-game set on Saturday, Post #91 inflicted the mercy rule with an impressive 13-2 victory over McDonald County.

Post #91 jumped on the designated home team with a pair of runs in the top of the first and six more in the second to lead 8-0.

McDonald County tried to peck away at the lead with a single run in the fourth and one in the fifth, but five more Monett's runners scored in the top of the fifth to ice the game.

Former Cassville Wildcat Ben Makela earned the victory. He pitched five innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out eight.

Webb City

On Wednesday, Post #91 picked up its second win in three tries, opening the Carl Junction tourney with a 12-1 thrashing of Webb City.

Post #91 struck for a pair of two-out runs in the first when Robbins singled to score Reese Stevenson and Dillon Bunch who walked to start the game.

Phillips doubled to open the second inning and scored on Stevenson's single to give Post #91 a 3-0 lead.

Webb City struck for a single tally in the fourth inning, before Post #91 blew the game open with five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning to initiate the mercy rule.

Goostree went three for four with a RBI and two runs scored. Phillips finished a perfect three for three at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Savage collected three RBI and smashed two doubles.

Robbins (1-0) picked up the complete game victory. With 105 pitches, he threw six innings, allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out six.

Post #91 will be in action tonight (Wednesday) at Neosho. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
