Thelma Stephens, 87, of Washburn, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, in Ashley Health Care in Rogers, Ark.
She was born on April 11, 1925, in Washburn, daughter of Oliver and Gertie (Privitt) Nodine. As a child, she attended the Seven Star rural school, and was a lifetime Barry County resident. She was a homemaker and also helped in the family's third-generation logging business. they also had a dairy farm operation. together with her husband, and their son, Jackie, she was all baptized in Sugar Creek by Rev. Gene Latshaw. She was currently a member of the Mission Baptist Church in Washburn. She married Ivan Eugene Stephens on July 8, 1940, in Washburn. He predeceased her on Dec. 26, 1977.
Survivors include: five sons, Paul Dean Stephens, of Pierce City, Joe Stephens and his wife Carlene, of Decatur, Texas, Bill Stephens, of Cassville, Jackie Stephens, of Washburn, and Ronnie Stephens and his wife, Becky, of Washburn; two daughters, Winnie Searl, of Washburn, and Coleen Bowman, of Exeter; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by Paul's twin brother, Carl Gene Stephens, three grandchildren, one great-grandson and two daughters-in-law, Anita Stephens and Joan Stephens.
Services were held May 31 at the White Funeral Home in Cassville, with Rev. Jerry Yarnall officiating. Burial followed in Washburn Prairie Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Southwest Backpack program and entrusted to the funeral home.
