Democrat photo/Melonie Roberts Wheaton Elementary School students had the opportunity to tour the Wheaton Depot Museum in May. Students were given a brief history of the train depot and what train travel meant to the community as recently as the 1960s. The 105-year-old depot has been purchased and placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings by members of the Wheaton Historical Society and the Wheaton Depot Museum. The depot now houses collections of memorabilia on display through the generosity of local residents. Wheaton Historical Society members who guided the tours included: Nola Ruth and Jerry McMillen, Kay Lombard, Sue Wilkins, Jo Phelps, Ralph and Betty Lamberson, Barbara Hickman and Jo Ann Jump.
