Cassville well represented on All-District baseball team

The Class 3, District 12 All-District baseball team has been announced. Three Cassville Wildcats were named to the first team. Two Wildcats and two members of the Monett Cubs were named to the second team.

Trey Rose and Ricky Nichols were unanimous selections to the first team.

Rose had an outstanding year behind the plate. The senior catcher for the Wildcats had a fielding percentage of .969 on 195 chances, with 165 put outs and 23 assists. He was charged with only six errors during the season. Rose's .400 batting average ranked second on the team.

Nichols finished the season batting .418 with a slugging percentage of .703. On defense, the Cassville senior recorded a fielding percentage of .831, tallying 29 put outs and 30 assists on 71 chances, He committed only 12 errors during the season.

John Cavness posted a 7-2 record as the ace of the Cassville pitching staff, and posted an ERA of just 1.87. Cavness struck out 77 batters in his 56 innings of work in 2012. He also contributed at the plate, batting .281.

Kreg Myers batted .373 for the Wildcats, and recorded a fielding percentage of .824.

Ben Makela posted a 6-4 record on the mound, striking out 57 in 51 and 2/3 innings, with an ERA of 2.71.

All-District first team selections were as follows: Rose, Cassville; Nichols, Cassville; Cavness, Cassville; Cody Lee, Mt. Vernon; Chase Johnston, Mt. Vernon; Kyler Shoff, Mt. Vernon; Zane Phillips, Mt. Vernon; John Locke, Reeds Spring; Josh Gronvold Reeds Spring; Kaz Woodward, Reeds Spring; Colton Weber, Seneca; and Jared Lipe, Seneca.

Second team

Myers, Cassville; Makela, Cassville; Carlin Ballay, Monett; Aaron Patton, Monett; Mac Roach, Mt. Vernon; Skylar Phillips, Mt. Vernon; James Woodward, Reeds Spring; Dalan Merriman, Seneca; Payton Rawlins, Seneca; Braxton Graham, Seneca; Markel White. Lamar; and Dillon Bunch, East Newton.
