On a weekend in Jefferson City where the weather drew almost as much attention as the runs, jumps and throws, Cassville's Cody Frana shrugged off the heat and turned in two All-State performances.
Frana barely survived the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles on Friday, then snagged a medal with his eighth place 15.39 on Saturday. Later on Saturday afternoon, he raced to fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking 39.53.
Frana was the only medalist from the area. Cassville's Josh Lannum threw the shot 46'6" for 13th place. Likewise, Monett's Chris Renteria finished 13th in the 1,600 meter race, running 4:34.87 in the brutal heat.
Neither Calisia Brookes nor her Cassville girls 4x100 relay team could advance out of the prelims.
Kirkwood in the finals of the last event, the 4x400 relay, to win the girls title with 48 points.
