Markus Monroe Ritchie, 85, of Cassville, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, in his home.
He was born April 26, 1927, in Norman, Okla., the son of Frank Oscar and Tina (Durham) Ritchie. On Sept. 17, 1947, in Elko, Nev., he was united in marriage to Ruth Eileen Hoffmann, who survives.
Additional survivors include: four sons, Mark Ritchie, Jr., of Longview, Dean Ritchie, of Cassville, Steve Ritchie and his wife, Liz, of Bald Knob, Ark., and Robert Ritchie and his wife, Sherry, of Exeter; five daughters, Carole Garrison and her husband, Rick, of Los Angeles, Calif., Judy Engle, of Bay Point, Calif., Peggy Dallmann, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Ruth Ann Carter and her husband, Brian, of Springfield, and Katie Tindall and her husband, David, of Cassville; two sisters, Margie Dodge and her husband, Quintin, of Woodburn, Ore., and Leona Hodo, of Wyoming; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
He grew up and received his education in Thatcher, Ariz. As a young man, he farmed in Norman, Okla. In May, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany, Australia and Switzerland. He then moved to California and became an iron worker, retiring as foreman. In 1994, he moved to Missouri to make his home. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and American Legion Post 118.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Quintin Dodge will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
