The top-seeded Purdy Eagles baseball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Class 2, District 12 tournament on Saturday at Fair Grove with a 5-1 victory over the eighth-seeded College Heights Cougars.

"We weren't as focused as I would have liked us to have been," said Purdy head coach Joshua Hughes. "College Heights let us hang around. We finally caught a break in the late innings."

The Cougars drew first blood in the second inning scoring a run off a wild pitch.

The Eagles countered with the equalizer in the bottom half of the inning. Drew Williams singled and scored on an error by College Heights.

Purdy managed five hits in the contest. The Eagles first four hitters in the batting order combined to go two for 13 with a single, triple and a walk.

"You have got to get your leadoff batters on base," said Hughes. "Our next opponent will make us pay if we can't score runs early."

Tyler Scott was a bright spot at the plate for the Eagles. He reached base on an error in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning and hit a sacrifice fly to score a run in the sixth inning.

Scott opened the fifth inning by pushing a bunt up the third base line and using his speed to beat the throw to first for a single. Reese Stevenson singled to score Scott, and Austin Hancock grounded out to score Stevenson.

The Eagles tacked on two runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
