Four people hurt in weekend wrecks
Four people were hurt in wrecks that occurred over the weekend.
Two Cassville residents, Charles R. Edwards, 57, and Jeanetta A. Phelps, 49, were seriously injured when the 1989 GMC S15, driven by Edwards, travelled off the roadway and struck a tree.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 6 p.m. on Sunday on Farm Road 2180 about two miles east of Cassville.
Both were airlifted to Cox Hospital South in Springfield. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
* A pair of Shell Knob residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday on Interstate 44 about two miles east of Marshfield. The crash occurred when the driver of a 1997 Ford Ranger, Kyle L. Carpenter, 18, of Marshfield, made a lane change and drove into the path of a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Karl Mitchler, 42, of Shell Knob. Mitchler swerved to avoid the Carpenter vehicle and struck the median barrier. A portion of the barrier broke free, striking the Carpenter vehicle in the driver's side door. Mitchler and a passenger in the his vehicle, Samantha S. Mitchler, 36, of Shell Knob, were taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Aurora with minor injuries. All parties involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts.
* A woman was killed in a crash that occurred at 6:15 a.m. on Friday on Highway 60 just west of Monett. The wreck occurred at 6:15 a.m. when the driver of a 2001 Ford Escort, Mary J. West, 63, of Granby, crossed the center line in the roadway and struck a 1985 Peterbilt semi-tractor, driven by Loren E. Easley, 61 of Cassville, head on. West was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Assistant Coroner Charlie McManus. The body was taken to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. This is the 31st fatality crash this year for Troop D.
