Velma "Maurine" Slaughter, 97, of Cassville, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, in the home of her daughter, Sandra Herndon, in Seligman.

She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Monroe County, the daughter of Roy and Montie (Quisenberry) Holohan. On Jan. 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to John "Leslie" Slaughter, who preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1978. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one infant son, Richard Slaughter; and three brothers, Leon Holohan, Denzil Holohan and Temple Holohan.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sandra Herndon and her husband, Jim, of Seligman, Janice Fohn and her husband, Jim, of Cassville, and Shirley Hart, of Riverside; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She grew up in Middle Grove and received her education at Madison. Upon moving to Moberly, she worked for the HRH Hosiery Mill. She was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly, where she had been active in UMW serving dinners, making crafts for fund- raisers and working wherever needed. She was also a volunteer in the church office and helped prepare for communion services. In 2004, she moved to Cassville to be near her family.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Moberly, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Mike Wondel will conduct the services.
