Big Bay Campground has opened for the 2012 season, which will run through Sept. 30.
Located east of Shell Knob, the facility offers camping and lake access in a wooded environment. Big Bay is operated through a special use permit, which allows for concessionaires to provide services previously handled by United States Forest Service personnel.
Visitors to the campground will have to provide their own water. Flush toilets are on site and fully functional.
Big Bay Use Area, where the picnic grounds and boat launch are located, will start charging $2 per vehicle per day for a daily use fee beginning this season. A fee tube and signage will be installed for day users' convenience.
Most campsites in the facility are on the National Recreation Reservations System, which may be accessed by calling 1-877-444-6777 or by visiting www.recreation.gov.
