Thomas Chandler (Tunney) Bowman, 85, of Cassville, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at Red Rose Health and Rehab Center, Cassville.
He was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Exeter, the son of Edgar O. and Bessie L. (Austin) Bowman. On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Mae "Jackie" Enfield, who preceded him in death on Feb. 16. Also preceding him in death were: his parents; a grandson, Brett Lee Prier; two brothers, Lee Bowman and Willie Bowman; and three sisters, Marie Gibson, Jessie Young and Mary Coble.
Survivors include: two sons, Danny Lee Prier and his wife, Katie, of Conway, and Thomas Lee "Tommy" Bowman, of Exeter; one daughter, Carol Ann Atkinson and her husband, Kenyon, of Cassville; and four grandchildren.
He graduated from Exeter High School. Following graduation, he traveled to several states, Oregon, California and Kansas before he settled in Wichita, Kan. He worked for Boeing Aircraft for nine years in Kansas and three years in New Mexico doing test runs. In 1971, he and Jackie moved back to Missouri to raise their family. He was a carpenter and also worked at Roaring River State Park for 17 years before retiring. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He had also been a member of the AKC German Short Club, winning the National Championship using his dog "Gus" who he had raised and trained.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Leland May will conduct the services. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
