Basic Obedience 101

Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Dogs and pet owners who participated in the first basic obedience training class at the Barbara Williams Training Center located at Haven of the Ozarks celebrated with a special graduation ceremony on April 14. Under the direction of Tristan Jolivette, dogs learned the basic commands "sit," "down," "stay," "leave it," "off" and "come." "'Come' is the most important command as it can literally save a dog's life," said Cheri Cowherd, Haven volunteer. Owners learned to use positive leadership and communication skills to help their dogs achieve their training goals. All of the attending dogs were successful in their training skills. A new basic obedience class is scheduled to start on May 5. An intermediate class for those wishing to advance their canine's obedience training will begin May 12. For more information, contact Jolivette at 417-569-6176. Dogs completing the inaugural basic obedience training are pictured above. In the front row, from left, are: Asher, Abbey, Mollie Mae, Rudy and Noah. Back row: Ace, Sister Bear, Hannah, Stella, Henley and Linnie.
