This month, the Southwest R-5 School District will hold three special events, an informational meeting, an awards night and preschool screenings.
The district will offer information on federal programs in the elementary school library at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.
Parents of non-public school students, parochial or homeschool children who live within the district are invited to attend to learn about federal services that area available. For more information, call Wanda Smith, director of special services, at 826-5696.
An awards night will be held in the elementary cafeteria at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 30. All kindergarten through fourth grade students will be recognized for reading achievements during the 2011-12 school year.
An ice cream social will be held after the awards ceremony. A door prize drawing will also be held for a $25 gift. Each student who attends will receive a free book.
Preschool screenings will be held in the kindergarten through second grade building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 26.
The event is for 3- and 4-year-old children. Youngsters who will be eligible to attend kindergarten next year should not participate in the screenings.
