Cassville library seeks help for summer reading program

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

The Cassville Branch Library is offering a summer reading program entitled "Dream Big -- Read."

The program is aimed to encourage young students to read for pleasure and retain their reading skills over the summer break.

"To add fun and create a sense of challenge that will keep kids reading, we'd like to offer incentives and contest prizes at various times during the summer," said Verna Fry, children's program coordinator. "We will also offer weekly activities and programs that children may attend.

"However, because of our limited budget, we cannot afford this without help," Fry said.

The library is seeking donations, which would include items to give away as prizes, free goods or services, or cash to buy prizes and materials for the program.

"This year, we would like to offer individuals or businesses the opportunity to sponsor one of the special events we hope to present, such as a visit from Dickerson Park Zoo or Heno Head's Science Fun," Fry said. "These events vary in price, but typically average about $100."

Sponsors will be promoted through the summer reading program.
