Wildcats lose pair on road

The Cassville Wildcats suffered back-to-back road losses to Springfield Catholic and Republic last week, slipping to 3-5 on the season.

The Wildcats lost to Catholic on Monday, 7-3, then were mauled at Republic on Tuesday, 13-4.

In the third inning the Fighting Irish jumped out to a 7-0 lead highlighted by five runs. The Wildcats scored the last three runs of the game. Trey Rose and Ricky Nichols both had two hits for Cassville, with Nichols producing a home run and two RBI.

Austin Tribby struck out 11 while earning the win for Catholic.

The Republic Tigers scored four times in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead, and added four and five runs respectively in the third and fourth innings as they cruised to a 13-4 victory.

John Cavness had two hits for Cassville, Ben Makela had a triple and Nichols added a double for the Cassville offense.

Makela pitched three and a third innings while absorbing the loss for Cassville. Republic's Garrett Woods pitched six innings while earning the win for the Tigers.

The Wildcats host Hollister Thursday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
