Southwest's Montana Hendrix increased her school record in the high jump to 5-3, Cristian Sellars nabbed Southwest's only gold medal at the Ash Grove Invitational March 30. Sellars led the field in the 800-meter dash winning in 2:06.01.
The Southwest boys scored 22 points and placed 10th in the field of 26 teams. Lamar won the meet with 144 points.
The Lady Trojans scored 20 points and also placed 10th in team standings.
Besides his gold medal performance in the open 800, Sellars anchored Southwest's 4x800 meter relay team to fifth place in 9:20.35.
Jeff Elkins finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18'11".
Hendrix took second in the girls high jump.
Southwest's Steve Rissler was visibly excited over Hendrix's feat, as her new personal best would have easily been in the Class 2 All-State rankings a year ago.
Hendrix also placed fourth in the triple jump, marking the sand at 30'7".
Nicole Ickes earned a medal for the Lady Trojans in the 300-meter hurdles, placing third in 51.68. Ickes also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.29.
