Family Casino Night to benefit non-profit

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Kornerstone Inc., will hold a Family Casino Night at the Crowder College Cassville Campus Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

"Community members who attend will be supporting a worthwhile non-profit program," said Marlene Whitham, Kornerstone director. "It will be a fun night. We will be using all play money. Attendees will use their play money winnings to purchase items through our silent and live auctions."

The Family Casino Night will replace Kornerstone's annual Dessert On Us fundraiser, which benefited Kornerstone's Teen Mom, early childhood, GED and NovaNet programs.

"One of our employees attended a casino night hosted by another organization and had a lot of fun," said Whitham. "We thought it would be a great way for us to put more activity and fun into our fundraiser. It is an effort to spice up the annual event.

"All proceeds will be used to keep Kornerstone's programs operating," said Whitham. "We provide services to low-come families and community members with educational needs."

Attendees will have an opportunity to try their hands at black jack, poker, slot machines, a cash cube and a prize wheel. The event will also offer musical entertainment with a disc jockey, concessions and a gaming area for children who are 12 to 15.

"We are encouraging advanced ticket sales to ensure we have enough tables available during the event," said Whitham.

Advanced tickets are $15. Tickets will also be available at the door at a cost of $20. Each ticket includes $500 in play money.

A Texas Hold-Em Tournament will also be held during the event. A $30 donation will receive a place in the tournament and $1,500 in play money. Cash prizes in the amounts of $250, $100 and $50 will be awarded to top three tournament winners.
