Southwest's Tyler Ferguson threw a one-hit gem, as the Trojans defeated College Heights 13-0 in a run rule-shortened game on Friday at Washburn. The victory lifted Southwest to a 2-1 overall record.
Cody Shirk's single in the top of the fifth inning was the only clean hit the Cougars managed against Ferguson, who fanned six batters and walked five while collecting the win.
Ferguson also led Southwest at the plate, going three for four with a home run in the second inning. Timmy Johns had two hits and scored three times in the game as seven different Trojans hit safely.
"I sure wish we could replay that second inning against Hurley," said Southwest's Kenny Ferguson.
The Trojans suffered a seven-run meltdown against Hurley in their only loss of the young season.
Southwest will host Purdy in a rivalry game on Monday, April 9.
