Wheaton VFW Post #5219 has placed a flagpole near the veteran's memorial brick area at the Wheaton Depot Museum. The donation was made in memory and honor of local veterans. Wheaton VFW Post #5219 was formed Dec. 31, 1945, and disbanded in April of 2011. The three surviving members of the post, John Mestas, Jack England and Glen Phelps, decided that the museum would be the best permanent location for the flagpole. The Wheaton Historical Society and Wheaton Depot Museum are currently taking orders for memorial bricks, which will be installed in the area east of the depot. Small bricks cost $50, and large bricks can be purchased for $100. For more information or to purchase a brick, call Sheila Young at 417-442-3194 or Betty Lamberson at 417-652-7488. Pictured above, from left, are: Phelps, Mestas and England.
