The Jenkins Fire Department held its annual St. Patrick's Day chili and soup supper and Firewise Open House on March 17. Around 200 community members attended the fundraising event, which will help pay for the department's new pumper truck. The new vehicle will replace a 50-year-old truck. Fire prevention brochures were available to attendees. A video presentation was also shown during the event. Firefighter Preston Guthrie presented door prizes to several attendees. A drawing was held for a stainless steel grill. In the photo above Guthrie congratulates drawing winner Tami Dickson and her family. The grill was originally donated by Journagen True Value and won by Jim Fohn, who donated it back to the department. Community members, organizations and businesses that contributed to this year's event included: Mike Carr; Seven Valleys Construction; Dave Ellsworth; Cassville First Baptist Church; Jim Fohn; Bob Journagen; Monett Sav-A-Lot; and Schreiber Foods. The Jenkins Fire Department accepts volunteers throughout the year. Individuals interested in serving as firefighters, first responders, truck drivers, grant writers or other volunteers are invited to call Fire Chief Brian Sisco or James Vincent at 417-574-6323.
