Cassville gardener to offer second market

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Brad Ruggles, who maintains a large garden at Hilltop south of Cassville, will also offer locally grown produce in the Tractor Supply Company parking lot this summer.

Ruggles will offer items in the southeast corner of the parking lot on Old Exeter Road beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the 2012 growing season.

"I will begin offering produce as soon as my garden starts producing," said Ruggles. "Then items will be available as they are harvested throughout the summer. I also hope to have some vendors who offer crafts."

Ruggles has invited other local vendors to join him on either Wednesday or Saturday mornings. He will charge a small fee to cover the cost of providing a sign and advertising for the market.

"The fee will be very small," said Ruggles. "I am doing this for the community, not for any gain. The only profit I will make is on the produce I sell."

Ruggles plans to offer new potatoes, two varieties of sweet potatoes, Chinese cabbage, yellow tomatoes, Jubilee red tomatoes, big boy tomatoes, flat head cabbage, purple cabbage, onions, squash, zucchini, okra, rhubarb, asparagus, radishes, turnips and an assortment of cucumbers this summer.
