Local agribusiness man announces candidacy
A Kings Prairie agribusiness man has announced his candidacy for northern commissioner of Barry County.
Tom Hutchens has added his name to the growing field of candidates. A native of Wheaton, Hutchens has won elected office as a commissioner for the Kings Prairie Special Road District for more than 20 years.
Hutchens held the position of milk tester for the Dairy Herd Information Association for the county for many years, working with local dairymen. Hutchens subsequently turned his efforts to farming, growing turkeys for Hudson Foods and broilers for Tyson Foods for a total of 30 years.
Recently, Hutchens downsized his farm to be better able to serve the county's residents. He views his central location as an asset for serving north Barry County residents.
Hutchens' wife, Carolyn Marbut Hutchens, owns Hutchens Realty LLC in Purdy. They have four children and seven grandchildren. He is running as a Republican.
