Democrat Photo/Lindsay Reed On March 6, Cassville High School music director Mary Richmiller presented Greg Beck, of Cassville, with the Cassville R-4 School District's 2012 Music Advocacy Award. Beck, who began playing the drums when he was 15, performed with the Cassville High School band and stage band as a student. He later performed with the Missouri Southern State University percussion department, marching band, stage band and orchestra. After earning his college degree, Beck performed professionally for several years. He later returned to Cassville to share his talents with the local community by offering music lessons and performing with the Cassville First Baptist Church Praise Band. Beck has directed The Show, the Hometown Sound Band and the RedHots for 21 years. Over the last two decades, the group has offered 107 performances and played around 472 songs. This year, The Show will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Performances will be offered on Oct. 26, 27 and 28. "Greg has done an exceptional job of promoting music in our community for a very prolonged period of time," said Richmiller. "This is our way of showing our appreciation."
