Although it has been several months in the making, Butterfield city officials can now move forward on a $1.4-million drinking water system improvement project.
The city received notification this week from the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) that it has been awarded a $500,000 grant under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The grant will be used in conjunction with a $378,000 low interest loan and a $572,000 grant that the city has already received from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The funds will provide for a new well, well house, 19,000 feet of replacement water lines and the repair of roadways that are impacted by the project.
Simmons Engineering will go to bid this week on the project. That process is expected to take about a month.
