Mercy Hospital Cassville will host the grief seminar, "The Journey from Grief Toward Healing," over an eight-week period beginning Tuesday, March 13. The free seminar will be held in conference room C from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
"This is for anyone who has experienced any kind of loss," said Tom Gripka, Mercy Hospitals Cassville and Aurora chaplain. "Where there is loss, there is grief. Loss can include the lost of health, a job or family.
"Of course, with death there is loss," said Gripka. "This is for those who have lost a spouse, a parent or a child."
According to Gripka, Mercy Hospital Cassville hosted a one-day grief seminar that offered information on handling grief at the holidays in December of 2011. Grief seminars are designed to help individuals navigate the grief process.
"We hope those who attend find hope in life and learn to enjoy life again," said Gripka. "There is a lot to live for. We want them to experience healing from whatever their loss might be."
The eight-week grief seminar will be led by a volunteer chaplain. In addition to receiving reading materials and watching a short DVD, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in question-and-answer fellowship and share their personal stories.
"We have sent flyers out to our ministerial alliance and the area funeral homes," said Gripka. "We had around 10 or 12 people attend the holiday grief seminar and are expecting about the same amount, but there will be space available for anyone who wants to attend."
Pre-registration for the event is not required. Attendees are also not required to attend all eight sessions.
The grief seminar will continue through May 1. The event is hosted by Mercy Hospital Pastoral Services and open to the community.
