Haven of the Ozarks will host an open house at the new Barbara Williams Training Center from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The Barbara Williams Training Center will offer basic obedience classes. Pet owners are invited to enroll in the seven-session course, which will cost $89.
Tristan Jolivette, professional dog trainer, will teach positive re-enforcement techniques for all aspects of dog training from potty training to advanced obedience. Classes will be offered from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The animal sanctuary's new training center was named in honor of the late Barbara Williams, former Haven of the Ozarks' chief executive officer and board president. Williams died on Oct. 23, 2010, following a year-long battle with leukemia.
"Her love, dedication and loyalty to Haven's animals was shown in her willingness to spend the countless hours to care for them," said Mike Steffen, director at the Haven. "She worked six, and sometimes seven, days a week, through holidays and in all kinds of weather to help these stray, abandoned and abused animals. She took no financial compensation for her position."
All area residents are invited to attend the open house. Jolivette will offer a dog training demonstration during the event.
The no-kill, non-profit animal sanctuary is located west of Cassville on Farm Road 2190 in Washburn.
