Walter Douglas "Doug" Johnson, 73, of Exeter, passed away Friday Jan. 13, 2012.
He was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Independence, the son of Walter and Charlotte (Campbell) Johnson. On July 12, 2008, in Eureka Springs, Ark., he was united in marriage to Janis Vollenweider, who survives. Additional survivors include: one son, Brian Johnson and his wife, Kathy, of Franktown, Colo.; one daughter, Julie Gregory and her husband, Jon, of Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Lois Morrison and her husband, Ray, of Lakewood; two grandchildren; step children; step grandchildren; and Jan's mother, Ruth Vollenweider.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, William Johnson and Gerald Johnson.
He grew up in Oak Grove, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at the University of Missouri and graduated in 1960 with a bachelor of agriculture degree. He served as president of Farmhouse Fraternity. He served his country in the U.S. Army. For several years, he was employed for Proctor and Gamble in Cleveland, Ohio, and in sales and marketing in Kansas City. Four years ago, he moved from Oak Grove to Exeter to make his home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oak Grove and had attended Cassville United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with a memorial service following at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
